From being established in 2001 by our founders, Howard Lickens and Gary O’Donnell, we now have over 1000 employees based in multiple sites across the UK, Ireland and continental Europe.
The growth journey
The Clear Group was established in 2001 by two experienced insurance professionals, Howard Lickens and Gary O’Donnell. Having spent a significant number of years either working for large insurers or family brokers, both shared the same vision of creating a new broker that would focus on growing a brand based on a belief that really mattered to them: to do the right thing.
This belief has sustained the business during its years of growth, chosen for the simple reason that it embodies the founders' approach to dealing with people, whether clients, co-workers or Insurers.
For Clear, acquisitions have always been about expanding its expertise, capabilities and geographical footprint with a focus on people and culture; but never deviating from its original belief.

2024
Clear completes further substantial acquisitions, including largest retail broker and GWP deal to date. Expanded company structure to include the new London Markets pillar.
2023
Clear enter the MGA space, whilst setting up a new Ireland region.
Following the success and growth of the Clear Group in the UK and Ireland, Clear Management Europe (CME) was established, in the next phase of our long-term growth strategy.
2022
Goldman Sachs invest in the business; a partnership that will be utilised to drive the next phase of growth.
Clear expands to include a North region.
2021
Mike Edgeley joins as CEO, bringing a wealth of experience from previous senior roles.
2020
Clear grows its influence across the nation now employing 400 people across 10 offices, including the new Midlands region.
2018
Clear Insurance Management confirmed as a Lloyd's Broker.
2017
Clear receive Broker of the Year at the Insurance Times Awards, whilst expanding locations to create a total South region.
2006
Clear join Brokerbility in its founding year to collectively represent like-minded brokers’ views in the market.
2001
